COLOCATION
What is colocation?
Colocation is a service where organizations rent space in a data center to store and operate their own servers and other IT equipment. This gives organizations access to a safe and secure environment to manage their data while giving them the opportunity to save on the costs of purchasing and maintaining their own infrastructure such as UPSs, refrigeration, diesel generators and other necessary equipment.
Colocation services can provide a range of different facilities, including power, cooling, networking, security and technical support. The organization can also get other services such as backup and recovery, disaster planning and monitoring.
Colocation also gives organizations access to extensive network connectivity and international links, allowing them to connect with multiple providers and increase their availability.
What is the advantage of colocation?
The advantage of colocation over having their own data center is that customers can save costs by sharing infrastructure and services such as electricity, cooling, fire protection and internet connections.
Colocation also offers customers flexibility and scalability, as they can choose how much space they need and make changes as needed. It also provides better security, since a data center typically has better physical security and continuity plans than you could have had yourself.
Another advantage of co-location is that customers gain access to the expertise and experience of a data center operator, which helps to improve the safe and secure operation of the IT platform. At NTC, this means 2N power from UPSs with battery banks to the rack rows that have A and B power rails, supplied with power from a diesel generator in the event of a power outage from the power supplier, with redundant and separated fiber lines, in a fire and water-proof environment, with 2-step access control as applicable area and 24/7 security system.
